Fractured

An exploration into fragility, this piece was driven by the process.  After the sculptural form was resolved, some additional brass splints were used to support the structure, overtly signally a weakness but also a beauty in its boldness.

The finish for this piece involved scorching the London Plane with fire, and adding a subtle blue tint to the wood.  After the simple casket design was built,  fire was used to distort and corrupt the form.  It fractured mainly at one point, taking this as direction, the flaw was celebrated.  Evolving and reshaping this area to create a more sculptural shape.
